The hotel was beautiful and very clean. The nightly wine and cheese hours with entertainment were terrific. We liked the fact that there was always complimentary cold bottles of water and a coffee and tea station in the lobby.

Breakfast was delicious and the location was close to everything. At the sight of the old operating room, guests have seen doctors treating soldiers who have been recently brought in from the battlefield. Some have made claims that they have felt a presence holding onto their wrist, as a nurse would do to feel for someone's pulse. The boy's mother quickly went to look in the bathroom, and didn't see the boy of whom her son spoke of, but when she looked at her son's arm, she found that there was a bite mark.

There's shopping and dining right outside our door, and beautiful squares and antebellum architecture at every turn. Most guests do not need their car until it's time to leave. A portrait of Mary Marshall, painted in 1830 by artist Peter Laurens, proudly hangs behind the front desk in the hotel's lobby. One day a young girl who was staying at the hotel with her father pointed to the picture of Mary Marshall and told her father that she had seen the lady in the hallway.

Fun, quirky, and a little bit different, the guest rooms at The Marshall House have a unique style that you just won't find in a new hotel. It's a mix of modern and vintage, past and present, featuring everything from original 1850s doors and moulding to contemporary furniture and present-day amenities. The Marshall House offers three suites and 65 guest rooms, ranging from our Petite Queen Rooms to the unique and spacious Mary Marshall Suite on the balcony. The Marshall House is located in the very center of the Historic District.

This privately owned and managed restaurant located in The Marshall House, an historic Savannah inn , offers a unique venue for a variety of private events and public dining. The entire building was completely renovated in 1999 reestablishing the facility to its former grandeur. Originally built in 1852 the space offers three private rooms handling events from six people to over two hundred fifty. After the hotel renovations unearthed the bones from the the Civil War soldiers, the remains were cleared, but the paranormal energy continues to exist. Guest have reported numerous accounts of the ghosts of amputee soldiers who walk vacantly and aimlessly throughout the hotel. One of these departed souls has been seen in the hotel's lobby with his missing arm in hand, pleading with the guests to help him find a surgeon.

We loved the fact that there were historical drawings, photos and artifacts affixed to the walls throughout the hotel, with the option to take a self-guided tour by scanning a QR code for the exhibits. Built in 1851, this charming 68-room property housed Union soldiers during the Civil War -- and some guests say their spirits still walk the hallways. However, this upper-middle-range property has some of the drawbacks common to old buildings, such as noise issues, small rooms and bathrooms, and few amenities. Don’t miss the 45 Bistro, which offers a seasonal menu and an extensive wine list.

The Historic District is bordered by the Savannah River and Forsyth Park, and includes the Riverfront and City Market areas. Riverfront is a (somewhat) recently revitalized area, with restaurants, galleries, shops, and bars. City Market is a more diverse and casual version of Riverfront, with lots of live music and vendors selling locally made wares.

The Marshall House is the oldest operating hotel in Savannah and has an authentic atmosphere that's not to be missed. Built in 1851, the hotel was occupied by Union troops led by General Sherman at the end of the Civil War, and was a hospital during two Yellow Fever epidemics. In response to Coronavirus (COVID-19), additional safety and sanitation measures are in effect at this property. Couples particularly like the location — they rated it 9.7 for a two-person trip.

While we don’t know exactly what the father said, you can imagine his surprise when his young daughter told him she’d seen the ghost of a woman who has been dead for decades . Perhaps they didn’t stay at The Marshall House for too much longer. Some guests have reported seeing friendly ghosts at the Marshall House.
